Rules to know

  • The permit must be applied for at least 15 days before your travel date.
  • You cannot apply for a second permit for dates already covered by an existing permit.
  • One application covers up to 6 people, and the family step cannot be skipped.
  • An approved permit can be extended. The extension is checked again before approval.
  • Required documents and approval steps differ by purpose of visit.

How long it takes

The permit must be applied for at least 15 days before your travel date. Each application is then checked online by officials, level by level. We suggest sending us your documents three to four weeks before departure, and earlier in peak months and around holidays, so there is time if anything is returned for correction.

Prefer us to do it?

  • We check your documents before submission so nothing comes back.
  • We apply for the islands on your itinerary, matched to your travel dates.
  • We follow up and send you the permit once it is issued.
  • Permit and heritage fees are included in all our Lakshadweep packages.

Permit questions

How early must I apply for the Lakshadweep entry permit?

Under the new permit rule, the Lakshadweep entry permit must be applied for at least 15 days before your travel date. We suggest sending your documents three to four weeks ahead, so there is time if an application is returned for corrections.

Where do I apply for a Lakshadweep entry permit now?

From 15 October 2026 all Lakshadweep e-Permit services are on the new portal, https://lak.e-permit.utl.gov.in/. The old e-Permit portal was available only until 15 October 2026.

How much is the Lakshadweep entry permit fee?

The standard fees are an application fee of ₹50 per applicant, and a heritage fee of ₹100 for children aged 12 to 18 or ₹200 for anyone above 18. Fees depend on the purpose of visit, some purposes are free, and the exact amount is shown on the payment page before you pay.

How many people can be on one permit application?

A single application can include up to 6 people: the main applicant and family members together.

Which documents are needed?

Each traveller uploads a passport-size photo and an ID proof. Other documents depend on the purpose of visit, and foreign nationals also need their passport and stamped Indian visa. Uploads can be PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 2 MB each, and must be clear and readable.

Can I check my permit status without logging in?

Yes. Track Permit on the portal shows the status from the application ID, and Verify Permit checks whether a permit is valid using the Permit ID. Neither needs a login.

Please note. This guide follows the official Lakshadweep e-Permit Portal user manual. Rules and fees can change, so the portal is always the final word. Source: lak.e-permit.utl.gov.in.
