The short version
Almost every visitor flies into Agatti, the only island with an airstrip, and continues by boat or helicopter if their stay is elsewhere. Ships are cheaper and slower, and their schedules move.
| Route | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Flights | Mainland to Agatti — the fastest and most reliable way in. |
| Ships | Services from Kochi, Beypore and Mangalore, depending on the schedule. |
| High-speed vessels | Inter-island crossings, most commonly Agatti to Kavaratti. |
| Helicopter | Kavaratti to Agatti for flight passengers, subject to availability. |
| Private boat | Full-boat charter to Thinnakara and Bangaram. |
Flying in
Agatti receives flights from Kochi, Goa and connecting routes from Bengaluru and Delhi. From 25 October 2026 there is also a Fly91 connection from Navi Mumbai through Goa — see Navi Mumbai to Agatti flights. Coming from Delhi? Read Delhi to Lakshadweep via Goa. The runway is short and the aircraft are small, so seats are limited and fares rise quickly close to the date. Book flights before you finalise anything else.
Sailing in
Passenger ships run from Kochi, and sometimes Beypore and Mangalore, according to the programme released by the Lakshadweep Port Department. Crossings take many hours, tourist tickets are released under a quota of roughly ten percent, and sailings can be affected by weather and operational requirements.
Moving between islands
Once you're in, high-speed vessels handle the inter-island legs, a nine-seat helicopter connects Kavaratti and Agatti for flight passengers, and private boats reach Thinnakara and Bangaram on charter.
